Devinci Bikes are well known in Quebec and the rest of the Great White North, aka Canada, but the brand is not-so-well-known south of the border in Mainland USA.

Devinci was founded in 1987 as Da Vinca, the vision of two engineering students local to Chicoutimi, Quebec. A couple of years later, road cycling entrepreneur Felix Gauthier became involved with the company. By 1990, he purchased half the company and changed the name from Da Vinca to Devinci Bikes – Cycles Devinci.

“Taking open road to the performance level, Devinci’s new Hatchet Carbon is the perfect manifestation of mixed-surface compatibility. Starting with the frame, Dual Core Fusion tech fuses two cores for a trifecta of speed, stability, and intuitive response. Paired with a comfortable, compliant seat-stay the combo provides an unbeatable feel on loose gravel.”

“Adding to that expertise, the bike also has a stiff bottom bracket that enhances lateral rigidity, while its low placement improves a rider’s center of gravity for better balance on and off the pavement. Relaxed head angles maximize stability. Longer top-tube geometry is balanced with a short stem for responsive handling. And additional features include up to 40c tire clearance, mud guard and internal dropper post options, internal cable routing (including fork), ultra-clean aesthetics and 1X compatibility. Built for super-enduro stamina, the Hatchet Carbone feels lithe on climbs, fast on descends, devours technical singletrack and is a punchy contender with limitless heart… and lungs.”

Sounds pretty awesome, eh.

The owner of this particular Hatchet, Daniel Turcotte of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada seems to think so.

Beginning at the front of the bike, Daniel relies on SRAM’s proven Rival 11-speed mechanical / hydraulic brake shifters.

Like so many other riders making the leap, Daniel has chosen a single chainring / 1x configuration for his bike. Be sure to check out our video on subject of 1x / 2x.

SRAM’s Rival X1 11-speed rear derailleur takes care of the shifting duties.

The rear derailleur is paired to a SRAM 1x specific cassette in the 10-42 ratio.

All of the Devinici Hatchet’s cables are routed internally. This is a handy feature for inclement weather conditions – keeping the cables and housings shielded from the worst that mother nature can throw its way.

SRAM’s hydraulic brakes are flat-mounted to the Hatchet’s fork. Brake rotors are 160mm front and rear with a 12mm thru-axle on the front, 142 x 12mm thru-axle on the rear.

Following the example set by the front brake, the rear also attaches to the frame flat-mount style.
