From the Clamont Website – “Clarence St. Cyclery (possibly the best known bicycle shop in Australia) designed and developed the Clamont range of bicycles in 1978, to offer the Australian consumer an alternative to cheap Taiwanese and expensive European imports flooding the Australian bicycle market.  The cheap imports were generally manufactured from poor quality tubing, with inferior butt welding.  European models were overpriced, their features ill-suited to Australian conditions.

The launch of the Clamont range was based on quality Australian-made frames, durable components, backed up by professional assembly, excellent after sales service at competitive, realistic prices. The range was designed to cover the entire spectrum of bicycle activities from recreational cycling for the family, to off road, mountain bikes, to the highest level of professional and Olympic standard competition.”

Marco Cailao’s Clamont Gravel Grinder

Marco’s bike is beautiful and functional, and demonstrates what is possible with today’s high quality steel tubesets.

The paint and finish quality on this machine is stunning, but this isn’t stopping Marco from babying his machine.  He can regularly be seen stomping gravel roads in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia (see photos below).

Headset: Chris King.
Seatpost: Thomson Masterpiece Zero Setback.
Saddle: Brooks Cambium.
Wheelset: Build by Wheelworks in New Zealand (White Industries Disc Hubs, Pacenti SL23 rims).
Tyres: Challenge Almanzo Skinwall.
Handlebars: 3T Ergonova.
Stem: 3T ARX.
Shifters: Shimano Ultegra Mechanical 11 speed.
Derailleurs: Shimano Ultegra Mechanical, 11 speed, medium cage rear derailleur.
Crankset: Shimano Ultegra 11 speed, 46 / 36 chainrings.
Bottom Bracket: Shimano Dura Ace external cup.
Pedals: Shimano XT.
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra, 11-32.
Brakes: Shimano Hydraulic, Road / CX specific.
Bottle Cages: King Titanium.

    Hi all, just wanted to say a huge thanks for posting Marco’s Gravel Grinder, I’m the mechanic who gets to assemble Geoff’s wonderful machines @ Clarence street & I’m learning the dark arts of frame building from the master himself. Cheers Gid

      Thanks for chiming in. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig you have there. I’m originally from ADL, but have yet to visit Clarence Street, which is the most well-known bike shop in all of Australia. Would love to pay a visit when I’m home later in 2015 / early 2016.
