Backpack Offroad Cycling TourFrom the Promoter:

On Saturday, September 17th, London Kentucky will host a one-day offroad bicycle tour in the beautiful Daniel Boone National Forest and the Cane Creek Wildlife Management Area. This bike tour will be complete with well stocked rest stops, SAG support and an after-ride meal. There will be several distances to choose from, ranging from 11 miles to 46 miles. The trails are non-technical and most are rolling to gently sloping.

The trails are packed gravel US Forest Service roads, which are perfect for mountain bikes, cyclo-cross bikes, gravel bikes or even road bikes with wider tires. Over 95% of this tour will be deep within the National Forest. The Backpack Offroad Cycling Tour is a fundraiser for The Backpack Club Inc., which is a non-profit charity that is dedicated to feeding the children of Laurel County.

Event details and schedule:

The Backpack Offroad Cycling Tour will take place on Saturday, September 17. Packet pickup will begin at 7am and the tour will officially begin at 8am. Cyclists are asked to be finished by 4pm.

The course will begin with 2 miles of shaded paved road before entering gravel US Forest Service roads. Participants can make their tour as short or as long (up to 46 miles) as they like. There will be 5 well-stocked rest stops. Cyclists who visit all 5 rest stops (46 mile route) will receive a playing card at each rest stop. The cyclist with the best poker hand will receive be awarded a gift from the Backpack Club. The route will include the following roads:

  • Line Creek-Cold Hill Rd
  • FS 121
  • FS 56
  • FS 119
  • Rooks Road
  • FS 457
  • FS 1189

Participants should arrive at the start/stop area before 7:30am.


To get to the site take exit 38 (London) from Interstate I-75. Go west on Hwy 192 for 5.8 miles. Turn right on Line Creek-Cold Hill Road. The church will be 0.1 mile on your right. Parking is limited so participants should carpool if at all possible.

Participants should bring a helmet, spare tube, pump and tire tools. There will be SAG support vehicles on the trails. A complementary celebration meal will be held after the ride.
