From the Promoter:
What’s a Gran Fondo?
Gran Fondo is Italian for ‘big ride’.
Gran Fondo events are long distance, mass-participation cycling events – not races – that have become immensely popular in Italy and the rest of Europe and are a fast-growing phenomenon in the United States. Participation is open to recreational and competitive amateur cyclists alike, and thousands of riders of all abilities participate. While Gran Fondo events are not races in the traditional sense, they go well beyond the scope of most recreational or charity bicycle rides.
Gran Fondo events are cycling’s equivalent of running’s marathon. As with the 26-mile running event, rather than racing other participants, most participants challenge themselves in a personal battle against the course, the distance, and, ultimately, the clock. While some faster riders will push the pace, the majority of participants are happy to complete the challenge within the allotted time.
Come out and ride Ohio’s hardest Big Ride in the beautiful Hocking Hills Region. Come down to the Appalachian Foothills and climb hills with as seep as 18% and over a mile long. The course will feature great state routes to gritty dirt roads.
After the ride and your finished, you will receive a finisher’s medal, tech shirt, and swag bag of other goodies. Plus a big after ride feed.
The ride course starts and finishes in Lancaster Ohio and travels south into Hocking County. The course will have 13 named hills with over 6,000 feet of climbing on the 75-mile route. (course map link to come)
There will be two feed zones on the course with tons of snacks and drinks.
