The HAMR is a new checkpoint based gravel race in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The HAMR will contain 4 mandatory checkpoints. The most efficient way to link the mandatory checkpoints will be approximately a 70-mile Adventure Loop. Teams will be able to seek additional checkpoints that will involve more miles but result in time bonuses. The team with the fastest time after bonuses and penalties will claim the podium.
You’ll ride everything from classic gravel to chunky two-tracks, logging roads, and a good helping of sand. You will see locals on everything from gravel bikes to full fat. We guarantee at least one river crossing. Two if we get really lucky. You will encounter a couple of hike-a-bike sections. Big surprise in the U.P., right? Sections of the HAMR route are remote. You must be prepared to fend for yourself and rely on your teammate. Cell service is sketchy at best across much of the route. You’ll be introduced to parts of the Upper Peninsula you would otherwise never see.
Racers will camp Friday night at our Base Camp where they will be subjected to a start time somewhere between 12:01am-7:00am Saturday morning. They will get a warning at an unknown time that the gun will go off within an hour of the warning. Base Camp will remain Party Central all day where finishers can hang out, eat & drink, share stories of their day, and wait for the winners to come across the line. That’s right. Due to the format of the event, the winners are very likely to come in many hours behind the first finishers.
Categories are: Male Team, Female Team, Co-ed Team, Family Team (parent w/youth), and Random Team (sign up a solo and get paired to a random team member Friday night).
