From the Promoter:
New Route for this years LION. It’s a classic loop i do out my front door. 1/3rd gravel 2/3rd small back paved roads.
Starting up the freshly re-build 9-mile gravel pass over 9500′ towards black lake. The Aspen trees should be in full-color change and the Elk out buggleing! Turn paved south down 434, a steep fast curvy no center stripe road with Coyote Creek next do you that’s a blast. Then it turns off onto 11 miles of the best gravel in the area down Coyote Canyon. A rolling narrow fast and smooth road that was used as the last sector in the La Cueva Roubaix. You then hit pavement again for a wonderful three-tiered climb up past Ojo Faliz with a relaxing slow descent through the open grass plains of the Ocate valley filled with Antelope and wide open views.
Fully timed route. Riders need to be self-supported. No outside support. I will sweep the route if all riders are not in after a 10 mph average passes.
Free camping with power and wifi. No food or Gas here so bring everything you need for the weekend. There will be a short dusk ride to catch some wildlife viewing Saturday night and a campfire pit after.
I hope you can make it out to the little hamlet I call home OCATE.
