“Have you ever wanted to get away for a short time? Clear your head for some peaceful moments as you explore the town you have lived in with a completely new perspective. Poseidon Bike takes its name from the God of the sea, a place where you can find serenity, stillness, and at a moment’s notice discover the strength the sea has.” – Poseidon Bike

Poseidon is a consumer direct business, meaning they don’t go through any extra distribution channels. “Our bikes are manufactured in a factory that we own and operate which allows us to ensure quality while giving you an affordable price. Our legacy of in-house manufacturing gives us the power and experience to source, design and build the highest-value bikes and components on the market.”

The Poseidon X is the company’s entry into the gravel / adventure bike market albeit at a budget price. Priced at just $US 600, the Poseidon X features:

  • 6061 Double Butted Hydroformed Aluminium Frame
  • Carbon Fork with tapered Aluminium Steerer
  • Shimano Claris 8-speed Drivetrain
  • Tektro Mechanical Disc Brakes
  • 46/34 2x Crankset paired to an 11-34 8-Speed Cassette
  • Super comfy Poseidon saddle – very similar to the Fizik Arione Tri

Whilst I did not race the Poseidon X, I subjected it to many hours and miles / kms of training with its stock 700c wheels and Kenda Small Block tyres.

There are many choices for gravel bikes circa 2019, I hope this review helps you to make an informed decision about a future gravel bike purchase.

Thanks JOM for giving us a fair review of a budget bike….not everyone can afford a carbon gravel “wonderbike” with all the bells and whistles.
I have riders asking me what they should buy to start riding the gravel and this price range $600-1000 is what I’ve been recommending just in cause they don’t continue.

Whoever spec’d the parts on this bike did a pretty sterling job… the gear ratios are spot on.

The gear ratio was the first thing I looked at, thought it was going to be too high – but 1:1 is perfect for entry level.

On the preorder list! Happy to hear it got your endorsement. Have you tried to see how big of rubber it can handle?

Curious, where are Poseidon bikes produced? I mainly ride road bike, but want to ride more gravel rides. Thanks, ~Steve

Steve, I would assume somewhere in Taiwan. I’ve no idea who their builder is but they seem to know their way around aluminium.
