Why?
“At Tailfin, we want to create the best-performing products that allow you to enjoy riding. It’s no secret that increasing the size of a top tube bag can often lead to more significant problems, and the conventional approach to long top tube storage, simply elongating a standard pack, often leads to frustration:”
- Stability Issues: Longer, larger volume bags tend to wobble and shift, affecting handling.
- Knee Rub: Poor shaping, instability and bulging can force unwanted contact between knees and the pack.
- Over-Expansion: Without structure, a fully loaded pack can bulge, reducing efficiency and comfort.
- Lack of Organisation: A large volume with no dividers leads to chaotic rummaging mid-ride.
- Unsightly Straps: Multiple straps at the steerer tube or seatpost can cause compatibility headaches and diminish aesthetics.
- Limited Sizing: Bikes vary widely, and one-size-fits-all solutions rarely deliver the perfect fit.
Tailfin’s Solution
“Our Long Top Tube Bags embody Tailfin’s core principle: no compromises. Borrowing all the best aspects of our existing top tube range—such as our proven V-Mounts and waterproof materials and construction—these new bags scale up capacity and organisation without sacrificing performance.”
- Three Sizes, One Perfect Fit: Choose from 1.6L, 2.2L, or 3.0L. The two smaller sizes are based on our 0.8L Top Tube Bag and are aimed at road and gravel frames (or riders who may suffer from knee rub). The larger 3.0L is tuned for the wider Q-factors of MTBs, yet still compatible with road and gravel bikes if you are lucky enough to have a wide stance. The lengths vary per size to further dial in the fit.
- Enhanced Storage, Perfect for Full Suspension Bikes: Maximise usable storage space when shocks or unique frame geometries limit frame bag capacity.
- Customisable Organisation: Each bag ships with a versatile divider. Additional accessories, which are available separately, include accessory pockets, and internal loops for keeping phones, battery banks, tools, and pumps neatly in place. The positioning and fit are fully customisable so you can segment your pack exactly how you prefer.
- Patented V-Mount Technology: Proven, stable, and secure. V-Mount eliminates unwanted movement and rub, banishing the need for additional stabilising straps around the front of the bike.
- Carbon Struts for Structural Integrity: Diagonal carbon supports prevent bulging, preserving a slim profile even when the bag is fully loaded. This innovation reduces knee rub and improves stability.
- Double Entry Zips: Access your gear from the front or rear zip for rapid item retrieval without fumbling.
- Patented Rain Gutter Rear Zip: Keep the weather out and ensure water can drain away should it enter, whilst maintaining high-level water resistance.
- 3D-Welded Construction & Water-Resistant Zippers: A fully welded construction and high-quality zips deliver waterproofing that withstands foul weather and challenging conditions.
- Seamless Integration with Other Tailfin Bags: V-Mount placement aligns with our Frame Bag and Top Tube Bag ranges, allowing shared straps and a tidy, cohesive fit.
- One-Handed Operation: Thanks to the robust internal structure, you can open and close the zips while riding—there is no need to stop or wrestle with stubborn closures.
- Reflective Detailing: Enhances low-light visibility, adding a subtle safety feature.
Suggested Use Cases:
- 1.6 Litre: Any and all riding
- 2.2 Litre: Any and all riding
- 3.0 Litre: MTB or any application if more space is required and knee rub isn’t an issue for you.
