League of American Bicyclists – National Bike Challenge

What is the National Bike Challenge?

The National Bike Challenge is an event organized by the League of American Bicyclists.  Quote from the Bike Challenge website – “The National Bike Challenge is a nationwide event uniting thousands of current bicyclists — and encouraging countless new riders. It is a free and easy way to challenge yourself, your colleagues and your community to ride more while competing on a local, state and national level. We aim to unite 50,000 riders to pedal 30 million miles from May 1, 2014 until September 30, 2014.”

Gravel Cyclist Participation

JOM, club member and El Presidente of the Gainesville Cycling Club, helped assemble a team of 293 riders, to take the win for the Teams in the 100+ riders category – two years running for the Gainesville Cycling Club.  He also registered GravelCyclist.com in the Company competition, and came out as winner of the division for Companies with one to ten employees!

To accomplish this feat, JOM rode a $hitload of miles from May 1 to September 30, 2014.  JOM also ended up 4th place nationally, out of 47,000+ cyclists.  Next year, JOM is skipping the Mileage Challenge because he is totally knackered.

What a nice Inbox you have

This arrived in the Gravel Cyclist inbox today.

“Hello Jayson (JOM),

Congratulations on an amazing National Bike Challenge!  Gravelcyclist.com took top honors in the award category.  Your award is a fabulous bike print from Taliah Lempert.

The print will include an award tag with your group’s name and award category.”

A nice little reward.
