Pasaquan & Peanuts: Welcome to Southwest Georgia, USA – Buena Vista, Ellaville, Americus & Plains

This video is jam-packed with old towns, history, kitschy items of interest, marvelous scenery and quiet mixed-surface roads. All of this madness began and ended in the town of Buena Vista, Georgia. Other towns along the route included Ellaville, Americus and Plains, home of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter!

Other items of interest include a quick visit to Pasaquan located near Buena Vista, (closed during my brief visit), the Windsor Hotel in Americus gets a look in, as does the tourist railway, Sam Short Line, the original home where Habitat for Humanity was founded, and the Big Peanut! in Plains, Georgia.

Buena Vista, Georgia

Buena Vista is a city in Marion County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Columbus, Georgia-Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,173 at the 2010 census. Formerly known as Pea Ridge, the city changed its name to Buena Vista in honor of Zachary Taylor’s victory in the Mexican–American War. The city is the county seat of Marion County. It is the birthplace of baseball legend, Josh Gibson and Medal of Honor recipient Luther H. Story. The visionary art site Pasaquan is located four miles (6 km) from Buena Vista, in rural Marion County. – Wikipedia

Ellaville, Georgia

Ellaville is a city in Schley County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Schley County. Ellaville is part of the Americus Micropolitan Statistical Area. Americus, Georgia

Americus is the county seat of Sumter County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 17,041. Americus is the home of Habitat for Humanity’s international headquarters, Georgia Southwestern State University, the Windsor Hotel, The Fuller Center for Housing’s international headquarters, The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, Cafe Campesino, and many other organizations. The city is notable for its rich history, including a large business and residential historic district, and its close proximity to Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, Andersonville National Historic Site, and Koinonia Partners farm. – Wikipedia
