Press Release: “La Resistance” Returns for its 3rd Year in the French Alps

“LA RESISTANCE”, 3rd YEAR IN THE FRENCH ALPS – 20th SEPT 2018

and “TOUR DE LA RESISTANCE” 1st YEAR – 20th-22nd SEPT 2018

Talloires, Lake Annecy, France – Now in its 3rd year, this unique high mountain cycling event will take place from 20th to 22nd September, starting and finishing in the picturesque village of Talloires, on the shores of Lake Annecy.

La Resistance is a unique mountain road and gravel event, conceived in honour of the brave men and women of the French Resistance who lost their lives in the Battle of the Glieres in 1944. The UK partner charity for the event is Walking With The Wounded.

The route tackles 2 tough road mountain climbs and 4 gravel/off-road sections, the star of which is a 14.5km unmade mountain road that offers a full panoramic view of Mont Blanc to riders. The 2nd road climb – the Col des Glieres (East) is nearly 7km long with an average gradient of over 11% and features in the Tour de France for the 1st time this year (Stage 10).

The 130km (La Resistance) and the shorter 90km (La Petite) routes both have the addition of the “Gravel Detour”, just 6km into the event. Riders have the option to take this fabulous mixed surface (gravel track, country lanes, single track in woods and across meadows) detour which adds a further 12km to the distance. La Resistance takes riders up to the Plateau des Glieres, right up to the National Monument to La Resistance and also past the Necropolis and Museum at Morette, at the base of the Plateau.

Riders are encouraged to stop and reflect at each of these places. La Petite does not ascend the Plateau but does stop at the Necropolis. There are 3,200m of elevation gain in La Resistance and 2,200m for La Petite. Riders choose which course to ride on the day, depending on how good the legs are feeling!

La Resistance bills itself as the “anti-sportive”, with riders encouraged to take all day on the bike, rather than compete to see how fast they can complete the course. Stop, take in the view, have a beer or lunch and enjoy one of the most unique and challenging cycling events on the calendar!

The rules of La Resistance require that all bikes have drop handlebars. The ride is designed to be ridden on road/CX/gravel bikes with no suspension.

Entry to La Resistance costs €60 and this includes entry to the event, breakfast, hot food and two drinks on return, finishers souvenir and rider “passport”. Tickets can be bought online at https://www.weezevent.com/la-resistance-2018

The event is hosted by bASECAMP Talloires (www.base-camp.bike), with great coffee, gravel bikes for rent as well as fine food, beers and wines for the post-ride celebrations.

Tour de La Resistance

bASECAMP is also launching the 1st official Tour de La Resistance, after a successful trial event in 2017. Tour de La Resistance is a 3-day bike packing tour of mountain refuges in the Aravis region of the French Alps, and takes in all the highlights of La Resistance along the way. It’s very accessibly priced at just €295 per rider.

Tour de La Resistance is not easy, and you will walk at some point so MTB shoes are compulsory! As with La Resistance, this event is designed for “gravel/adventure” bikes and flat bar bikes are not permitted.

Places are very limited at just 30 riders for Tour de La Resistance, so get your place reserved quickly!
