Pure Mountains, a pioneer in providing epic bike adventures in Andalucía since 2005, is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural Two Deserts Gravel Bike Tour. Running from 14 to 19 October 2024, this unique tour offers an extraordinary journey through the breathtaking Gorafe and Tabernas deserts, two of Europe’s most stunning and remote landscapes.
This new gravel bike tour is one of two ground-breaking, point-to-point adventures introduced by Pure Mountains, alongside the Sierra Nevada Gravel Bike Tour. These tours have been meticulously designed to challenge gravel cyclists while immersing them in the raw beauty of southern Spain’s most dramatic terrains.
“We’re thrilled to launch the Two Deserts tour,” said Jenny Mayhew, co-founder and guide at Pure Mountains. “This is going to be an epic trip through two astonishing European deserts and the mountain ranges that link them. The terrain is at the outer edges of gravel, and the scenery is stunningly photogenic.”
Tour Highlights
- UNESCO Geopark: Ride through the astonishing landscapes of the Gorafe Desert Geopark, sculpted by millennia of wind and rain, recognized by UNESCO for their geological significance.

- Cinematic Scenery: Explore wild, remote areas where iconic Western films, including The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, were shot.

The Route & The Riding
This is a challenging gravel route with 85% medium to chunky gravel and 15% quiet asphalt. For Andalucía, it’s a relatively low-altitude tour, reaching a maximum of 1800 metres above sea level, but with a lot of climbing and descending. Daily averages are 75 km, with 1500 metres of climbing. Riders traverse remote, sparsely populated areas. It’s suitable for fit, experienced cyclists.
The tour includes five nights of accommodation and four fully-guided cycling days. A back-up vehicle accompanies the tour, transporting luggage and providing refreshments, allowing riders to focus on the thrill of the journey without the burden of carrying gear.
