700 x 40: Isn’t that a Gravel Bike?

Maybe for some… The Fray’s geometry was tuned for 31-35mm tires.

From weekly club rides to mixed-surface death marches, the Fray has you covered. Capable of accommodating tires between 36mm and 40mm for when mixed-surface missions call, the Fray’s geometry is optimized for tires between 31mm and 35mm.

Application Recommendations:

  • 29mm – 35mm Tire – Performance road and rough road/mixed surface racing
  • 35mm – 40mm Tires – Mixed-surface racing, graded/smooth gravel roads

Choosing the Right Tool

With the ability to run up to a measured 40mm tire when using a 1X setup, the Fray will deliver mixed-surface performance, but it was designed for the road and the geometry delivers accordingly. Modern gravel racers and riders require slacker geometry, more tire clearance, dropper post compatibility, and more. At a glance, the Fray may appear to be equal parts Melee and MOG, but trust us when we say, this apple falls much closer to the Melee’s tree.

If you’re a rider planning to run 40mm tires most or all of the time, look to the MOG.

Fit is Fast

“You are only as fast your fit allows. The Fray is available in seven frame sizes, with four fork rakes, while the handlebar, stem, and seatpost options are a la carte. These options make the Fray the most readily customizable fixed geometry endurance / allroad bike on the market.

Recommended Chainring Combinations

  • Shimano 53/39T, 52/36T, 50/34T
  • SRAM 50/37T, 48/36T, 46/33T
  • 1x Cranksets w/ up to 55T chainring
  • Max Chainring Size: 55T
  • IncompatibilitiesShimano GRX 2X 48/31T
    • Reason: FD hangar will not allow for low enough FD position
  • IncompatibilitiesReason: SRAM T-Type recommendation is a minimum chainstay length of 425mm, we have found that T-Type will function with a 420mm chainstay which only the 60cm Fray has. All other Fray models have chainstay length of 415-417mm

Anti-Rattle Hose Retention:

To further aid in hose/wire management and noise prevention, the Fray features a hose/wire/cable retention strap that secures the hoses to the inside wall of the downtube. This also prevents interference between the Cargo Bags and hoses/housing. This strap can be easily accessed by removing the Cargo Bay’s door.”
