Great footage? Are you action cams rolling the entire race or you do selectively turn them on and off? Editing must be a challenge with all that footage.
Keep up the great work!
Hi Don, thanks for the feedback. One of the guys runs his camera pretty much non-stop, while myself and K-Dogg selectively them on and off. I average about 60 video files from the front camera alone… editing is quite a bit of work, particularly splicing everything together in the correct order. My brain hurts thinking about it!
JOM,
While your photos and comments truly give the reader a sense of how the races progress, I really enjoy the videos. As another viewer said, I too can almost taste the dust and feel the effort you guys expend. Awesome job.
it can be a bit challenging taking your hands off the bars to capture dramatic footage. GoPro uses a combination of dimly flashing lights and barely heard beeps to indicate when you are on or off camera. We have all nearly buffed taking our eyes off the road (or almost road.) It’s also tiring to sprint off the front to get a front shot without being dropped trying to catch back on.
K-Dogg and JOM, I really enjoy watching the videos you guys make and appreciate the time and effort you put into it. I have been looking into getting a Garmin VIRB. One thing I like about the Garmin is that it has voice control so you don’t have to take your hands off the bars. It also interfaces with Garmin head units. Don’t know if GoPro has anything similar.
Beargrease, Go Pro is offering voice control with the latest model 5 cameras. Our friend Dr. Pain uses a Virb (some of the footage in the video is from his camera), but he has never utilized the voice control. I am curious how well it works in the heat of battle, so to speak… over wind noise, etc?
I’m totally amazed with your video, I can almost taste the dust. I was riding dirt roads in MI before all this Gravel stuff started, my bike was Bianchi San Remo touring bike. Now all the gravel specific bikes. Are outstanding. I gotta get one.
Thanks CitizenAZ! Yeah, we were riding around on gravel rides in 2006… one of our crew was doing it in the 1980’s… now it is exploding. So many options for bikes now, which is a great problem for consumers to have 🙂
