The C&O Canal Towpath Adventure – Day 2
Continuing from Part One, the cycling journey of JOM and his mate Ed went as follows:
- Ride the C&O Canal Towpath from Williamsport, Maryland to its terminus in Cumberland, Maryland. Highlights along the way included Paw Paw Tunnel.
- Ride the Amtrak train with our bikes from Cumberland, Maryland back into Washington, D.C.’s Union Station.
For those wondering, JOM is riding Litespeed’s Ultimate G gravel bike – under review.
The next adventure, the unPAved Pennsylvania race video…

The C&O looked pretty rough and rocky in places. I’m wondering what wheel size and tire and rim width you were using. Did you wheels work well? Would you have prefer something wider or narrower?
Dang, my wife and I must have missed you by days. We routed from Pittsburgh on 9 Oct and arrived in DC on the 17th. GAP and C&O. Less muddy than what you show. Great trip. We rode 700c x 28 tires and did fine.
