Behind the Name
“While “Stoke” has become a commonly used expression in the bicycle world to describe the excitement you feel before an epic ride or a setting up a new rig, the name Stoke Wheels was chosen based on a deeper meaning. Wheelbuilder Dan Magorrian says, “After a few years of working in the bicycle industry and learning to build wheels, I received a letter from my grandmother with some old photos of my great grandfather, William Stokes. He had also been a bicycle mechanic and racer, specializing in building wheels using wooden rims.” The coincidence felt serendipitous, and the idea of starting a service dedicated to custom wheel builds was born.”
Build Quality
- Single-wheel or full wheelset builds are available
- Options to add dynamo hubs for commuting, bikepacking, and night riding setups
- Wheels built within +/- 5% average tension on each respective side. This means that the spokes on each side of a wheel are balanced, improving durability and longevity of staying true.
- All wheel builds come with a Park Tools Wheel Tension App measurement to confirm build quality and spoke tension balance
- Wheels are pre-stressed so that they don’t come out of true on the first few rides
- Proper build techniques using thread locker, spoke washers when necessary, and correctly sized spokes
- Choices of carbon or alloy rims, quality DT Swiss or Sapim spokes and nipples, and many hub options can be selected to fine-tune the ride quality of each wheelset.
